During foster care the ex-racer is sterilised, and as for any dog this is painful and frightening. I wanted to get her a soft toy of her own that she could take on to her adoptive home, so I chose one that did not represent a small or fluffy animal, which many people (wrongly) believe will automatically be seen as prey. A flamingo seemed a safe choice.
